This lab guides students through “round two” of compound probability events involving a random lottery draw--this time changing the number of choices in Your Ticket instead of the Number of choices in the Number Tumbler. This interactivity is a great way for students to explore theoretical and experimental probability by very quickly simulating the events hundreds of times. My students really enjoy working through these labs and I enjoy the math understanding and discussions that follow. The nrich.maths.org website is a huge collection of rich math problems and interactive activities designed to provoke true mathematical thinking: exploring, noticing, discussing, conjecturing, explaining, generalizing, convincing and proving. The online interactivities can be used in a whole class setting, in small groups, individually in a computer lab, or at home for those students who have internet access. Many of the activities are printable and copyable for use offline.
The nrich.maths.org website requires flash and requires a browser like Photon to run on ipads and android tablets
