This is a problem-based lesson plan aligned to 4th grade common core standards. However, it can easily be used in 3rd or 5th as well. The problem-based lesson helps students develop multiple strategies based on a real-life problem. This problem-based lesson offers multiple entry points and exits. It allows for the ability of finding multiple strategies in find a solution to an imaginable problem.
Students must develop multiple strategies for multiplying two 2-digit numbers and be able to support their reasoning of figuring out how Alexander's parents can throw him a 1st birthday party at the zoo!
