Product Description
The Desk Arranging Problem!

Problem solving is such a critical part of any math curriculum...but often our textbooks don't have real world, rigorous problems! This is an example of a problem solving activity you can use to fill that gap...

I used the problem to teach my students to work cooperatively, to persevere, and to realize that sometimes there is more than one way to solve a problem! It is a great problem to use between units...when you have a sub...or even for an enrichment group.

This problem includes background information for students, a room "map", 24 paper "desks" to use as manipulatives, and a set of 5 investigations for students to work on cooperatively. There are additional pages to extend the problem to your OWN classroom--and I have included both a problem solving checklist and rubric for you to use if you choose.

It was challenging for my students--but fun!
