Teaching problem and solution text structure? Reviewing proper paragraph writing skills? This activity is for you!
In this activity, students will work their way through five different stations (or six, if you create one of your own). At each station, students will use a different prompt to write a problem/solution paragraph.
This writing review activity will reinforce the idea that a problem/solution paragraph can take several different forms (i.e. one problem with three solutions, one problem with two failed solutions before a successful solution was reached, etc).
This activity will also help students practice creative writing skills. Students will have to use their creativity and imaginations to fill in details about these problems, and to invent possible solutions.
Example text structure paragraphs are provided for the first three stations. These are useful as models of correct responses, and can also be used to differentiate instruction (by having students create/complete a graphic organizer for a given paragraph instead of writing their own).
This station activity is perfect for skill review after concept introduction, or as a way to refresh skills throughout the year!
