Product Description

Practicing with Problem and Solution Task Cards, students gain a real understanding of the text structure. There are thirty large cards with a variety of activities for plenty of practice on this essential reading comprehension skill.

With the task cards, students practice identifying the text structure and its key terms. They identify problems, solutions, possible solutions, suggested solutions, and supporting evidence. The activities include:

  • identifying which sentence has a problem and solution text structure
  • identifying the problem and the solution in sentences
  • completing a graphic organizer to show the problem and solution in a short passage
  • answering problem and solution questions
  • completing a graphic organizer to show a problem with several possible solutions
  • completing a graphic organizer to show the steps to solving a problem
  • completing a graphic organizer to show a suggested solution and supporting reasons
  • illustrating a problem and its solution
  • writing problem and solution sentences using key words
  • making a flip chart

Task cards are great for whole class games or activities like centers, stations, or partner work. Individual cards can also be selected for review work as needed. With thirty cards including a variety of activities, they should work well with kids at a range of ability and skill levels.

These task cards support the Common Core standards for reading informational text, identifying text structures, using text-based evidence, and reading proficiently with understanding.

This set of task cards have content and graphics designed for middle school and upper elementary students.
