Video clips, news articles, teaching slides, etc.---what better way to teach "Text Structure?" The end goal of this product is to have students not only be able to recognize different text structures but also be able WRITE a short essay of their own, mimicking the text structure and including TEXT EVIDENCE.
I teach in a setting where most students despise reading and abhor writing. Using this product in my own classroom year after year, makes the dread of Writer's Block go away because it is extremely engaging. The chocolate theme catches everyone's attention right away, and keeps it throughout the 2 day lesson.
The text structures focused upon are Problem/Solution and Cause/Effect.
This lesson provides you with:
Several teaching slides using kid-friendly language
2 news videos
3 news article links
It all relates to a high interest subject that almost everyone loves: CHOCOLATE!
Keep your students' interest and teach them to incorporate quoted EVIDENCE into their paragraph analysis. Have fun with the topic!
