This 3-4 day cross-curricular class project fits nicely into a Cell Structure and Function unit, right after cell organelles are introduced. Students brush up on their persuasive and argumentative writing skills, read to gather information, draw to convey a message and speak to persuade. This project is a true marriage of NGSS Science Standards and the Common Core.
Daily Plan will vary- but this is what I typically do in my classroom!
Day 1- Project is introduced- set the stage- students get into groups and pick an organelle they will be designing the campaign for. There should not be any repeats! Groups will begin planning page.
Day 2-3- Groups will finish planning page and move on to designing a campaign poster. Students will work on campaign write up. Groups will practice campaign speech with with extra time (using speech checklist)
Day 4- Groups will present poster and campaign speech. Audience members will fill out tracker sheet. Students will use tracker to complete Vice President HW. Write up due today!
