Product Description
This brochure is geared towards South Carolina's third grade social studies standards and covers the following standard: 3-2.3 Describe the initial contact, cooperation, and conflict between the Native Americans and European settlers in South Carolina.
The following topics are discussed: Problems over Land, New Diseases, The Yemassee War, The Cherokee War (very brief), and A Royal Government. In the brochure there are two places where students are asked to respond to events they are reading about. Example: How would you feel if you were forced to leave your home? and What happens to a habitat when trees are cut down? At the end of the brochure, there is a comprehension check.
When I use brochures in my class, I have the students read along with me (shared reading). As we are reading, we highlight important notes. This usually takes about two days. At the end of the second day's reading, my students work with partners to answer the comprehension check.
I hope you enjoy!
