I run a personalized learning classroom. One of the essential aspects of that is having students work at their own pace. I have created this powerpoint, which is completely editable, for you to print and hang in your room. It will guide your students on how to actually "master" a standard on their own. My students refer to these procedures daily as they are working through whatever standard they are on. It has helped me on countless occasions when I am working with a small group, and I just refer them to these 5 steps.
The "trackers" that I refer to are year at a glance page with a list of all the standards used for that subject; students will color in the box once they have mastered that skill. These are placed in their data notebook. The 'pre-tests" and "post tests" are given at the start and end of the unit, at various times for each child, based on where they are. Please check out my math content for for precise standards based personalized instruction!
Next to this print out, I have a dry erase board for students to write when they want a conference. I also have a "celebration station" where students can get a gold medal (yellow construction paper cut in a circle) that I paperclip to their shirt for the day that says what they mastered. They also use one of the musical instruments to announce it to the class.
