This lesson builds phonological awareness by producing words with the ending consonant blends “sk” and “st.” In 24 pages, the child will
• preview words ending with “sk” and “st,”
• read key words in context of related sentences,
• answer questions to distinguish words ending with the consonant blends,
• apply knowledge of the consonant blends to expanded vocabulary,
• identify words ending with “sk” and “st,” and
• trace color-coded words.
This lesson covers 9 “sk” words and 9 “st” words:
Words ending with “sk”: desk, tusk, husk, disk, flask, mask, ask, risk, dusk
Words ending with “st”: test, nest, vest, rest, list, fist, fast, breakfast, best

This prereading pack is the tenth and final lesson of Book 2 from the Newitt First Grade Reading and Writing Program.
