The purpose of this project is for students to invent a product that does not currently exists. The project should take a few weeks and is broken down into three parts. They turn in a scale drawing, written description and magazine advertisement. Due to cost students do not actually make the invention but you could always add that if you wanted. The scale drawing includes math skills and the written description encourages good descriptive writing. This lesson can be differentiated by giving lower students ideas or giving them a product that is newly on the market and having them complete the components of the project with an existing product. During the project time I have also pulled up some scenes from Shark Tank online. The "sharks" talk about products being introduced and why they may or may not be marketable. My advanced classes have to present to the class at the end as if the class were possible investors and they discus if the products may have a chance on the market.
