Research has shown time and again that one of the keys to succeeding as a school community is ensuring that every student has access to a guaranteed and viable curriculum. A guaranteed curriculum is one that every student in the same grade level and/or subject area has access to, regardless of who his/her teacher is. A viable curriculum is one that is doable. All of the objectives in the curriculum can be taught -- and learned -- in one year.
The reality is that guaranteed and viable curricula are still elusive in schools. While collaboration between teachers has increased, teachers are still making individual choices about what to teach and when to teach it -- and those individual choices often mean that kids in different classrooms are learning vastly different things.
This survey -- which can be given to an entire faculty or just to individual learning teams within a building -- is designed to start conversations about just how guaranteed and viable the curriculum really is in your building.
