I got an idea from the amazing blog, "The Creative Language Class." They used simple words and phrases to make the proficiency guidelines come to life in the classroom so the students could see precisely where they were headed with their language study. I created this document that teachers of ANY LANGUAGE could post to display this in the classroom. I have included descriptions for Novice Low up through Intermediate High. As I teach HS, it is my experience that most students do not leave at a higher proficiency level than that. Document includes the proficiency levels, brief descriptions, and "goal" markers for levels 1-3. Each category is coded by a different fun font. You could even print on different colored paper!
