I created these 3 reading response logs based on researched based reading strategies along with a scoring guide to monitor students' progress. It's very easy to find interventions that tell you to use these strategies with students, but they don't usually include a way to monitor a students progress with numerical data (this is difficult with comprehension!) besides investing in very expensive reading programs.
So, I created a way that I could still use the books I have and track students progress based on written responses on their log. Yes, many of them do better orally responding in our reading groups, but they also need to practice getting their ideas down on paper to communicate their thoughts too (especially for standardized testing).
By tracking the points students score for each strategy teachers can easily see patterns in student comprehension over time. I have used the data from these sheets for intervention tracking purposes, but it has also greatly helped drive my instruction when grouping students and preparing lessons based on student needs.
