Students love performing and watching classroom skits and plays. This is a play written in the format of a TV news broadcast, but it is taking place around the turn of the 20th century. It looks at some of the problems our country was facing (child labor, immigrant discrimination, women’s inequality, unsafe working conditions, low pay, etc.) and the some of the people who worked to address these problems during the Gilded Age / Industrial Revolution / Progressive Era. Take a look at the preview pages to see the cast, the Progressive reformers involved, and the first page of the play.
Included with this purchase is also a follow up worksheet that asks students to review what each reformer’s role was and then cite evidence from the text to support their answer (great for meeting common core standards).
Typically the play can be performed and the worksheet can be completed in a 50-60 minute class period. Images have been embedded within the updated version of the script.
