This is a very simple worksheet I designed to help my fourth graders remember how to spell verbs correctly when they are in the past or present progressive tense (with suffix -ing).
We often find students misspelling verbs with certain inflections (-ing, -ed, etc.), which can affect their writing. This worksheet allowed me to embed some deeper thinking into basic spelling rules, which is great for keeping ELA instruction aligned with common core expectations.
This can be taught in fourth grade as a small activity or assessment while teaching students how to construct the past/present progressive tense. This may also be a useful review for higher grade levels or enrichment practice for advanced second or third grade students.
Attached are two full size (8.5'' x 11'') bitmap images, which include the worksheet and a key with suggested answers.
Aside from fonts available with Microsoft, this is my original work.
I hope this can be of use to you.
Thank you very much!
