In this highly-engaging and informative webquest, students navigate through six different QR codes (or clickable links) to understand the rise of prohibition, the passage of the 18th amendment, the 21st amendment, and the rise of organized crime. Students learn why prohibition was needed, how it was enforced, the meaning and creation of bootlegging, how several unintended consequences developed as a result of prohibition, the rise and role of Al Capone, and the subsequent passage of the 21st amendment.
Three versions of this webquest are included (one with QR codes, another with clickable links in a Word doc, and a Google 1:1 compatible version
) and students complete a final writing prompt to assess learning once they have finished. Students will answer the overarching question, "How did Prohibition lead to the rise of Organized Crime?"
A full key is also included!
