This two-part project requires students to imagine they are going to study abroad in Mexico. There is a humorous back story about their great uncle dying and leaving them a ton of money, but only IF they go to college and spend at least one semester abroad. You provide the students with a class catalog in Spanish and they create their schedule based on the requirements. Finally, they write a letter to someone in Mexico about their schedule. Rubrics included for both non-native speakers of Spanish AND heritage speakers of Spanish.
Skills/topics used include: Class subjects, 24 hour clock, numbers, basic introductions, time, and writing about schedules and classes.
My students loved this because they realized the freedom they'll have in choosing their classes and schedule in college.
The download is a zip folder that contains the project in .docx files so you can modify it as needed for your classroom.
