Product Description
Sometimes dream vacations turn out to be great. Other times, it can turn into a catastrophe and you're lost in the wild. How will your students respond when they need to survive in the wilderness with limited supplies and lots of wild animals. Time will tell if your students have the skills needed to make the trek back to civilization.

Into the Wilderness is a project based learning activity (PBL) that asks students to figure out how the can survive in the wilderness. They're limited to a handful of supplies and resources, so they'll have to rely on their wits and willingness to problem solve.

There are 18 activities (most are 1 page each) for students to complete. Each page involves an issue or topic they must solve, design, create, or research. As students work through each page, they will make their own decisions and choose the outcomes based on information they learn. By the end, all students will have completed the project, but each version will be based on the creator’s imagination, creativity, and mindset.

10 Survival Instincts

22-29 Journal Entries
Students are given 7 writing prompts for journal entries about their experience.. These prompts (if completed) flow into later activities, where students have to access this information they’ve created. There are also blank journal entries for students to use too.

30-39 Animal Research
Students can research 8 identified animals that are typically found in the mountainous wilderness. There are also blank animal research forms for students to use if they would like to research different animals.

40 Survival Tools
Students design two tools/weapons they would need for being lost in the wild.

41 Nourishing Treats
Students identify good, bad, and gross food choices for surviving in the wild.

42-44 Problem Solver
Students write about how they will solve problems they will face in the outdoors, such as escaping a bear and crossing a river.

45-50 Chart Your Journey Students will design a map of their journey through uncharted territory. This map can be one page or multiple pages, it is up to the student to decide. The map can be created during the process of this PBL or at the end.

All pages can be geared towards multiple grade levels, although for some younger students the teacher may need to give more explicit instructions. Students may choose to use multiple resources to complete each page. They might even choose to work with a partner, but you get final say on that.
