Students will be designing a community garden plot for a family. There are four different families to choose from and they all have different needs. Students will need to design the plot on the given map that has grid lines. The design of the garden must include at least one line of symmetry.
Then they will find the area and perimeter of the total plot, parking lot, storage shed, sitting area, and for each individual crop in their garden. Students will need to determine the cost of planting their design and create a line plot to show the family the expected amount of yield.
Included in this bundle are all the resources that are needed to complete this project. This include student pages for design the garden plot, a checklist, pages to record the area and perimeter, build a line plot, and calculate the expected amount of yield. The students also have a reflection page. I have also included a rubric that I use to score area and perimeter, line plots, symmetry, and adding and subtracting decimals.
