This is a budgeting project I created for a Grade 3 Math Enrichment class. Students will be given an annual budget and then engage in a simulated pet adoption. Students must budget for one-time and monthly expenses for their pet, as well as use their money wisely to hire a pet sitter! The budget might be tight so students must also earn some money through chores. This is a fun and engaging way to end a Math unit on Money or Financial Literacy. It is a perfect project for students during distance learning. Students will add, subtract, multiply and represent money and build 21st century skills such as problem solving, reasoning, connecting and reflecting!
Appropriate for grade 2-4. Meets Ontario Curriculum Expectations and Common Core State Standards for "Money As You Learn".
Note: students should have access to a computer for the project to research some pet expenses ( my students LOVED this part)
