This PBL Unit was developed to expose students to and help them create a health-related fitness program that can be used for a lifetime. Participating in a variety of activities to meet personal health-related fitness goals (which they have set) increases the likelihood of students pursuing physical activity outside of the school environment and thus continuing to be physically active throughout their lives.
Exposing students to a variety of activities, that target health-related components of fitness, helps them to compare, contrast and develop cumulative skills that enable them to reach their goals. Being able to transfer knowledge and skills to the activity in which they are pursuing, and reflect on health-related components of fitness, increases overall health and well-being.
