This is a word document that can be printed and handed out to students, or projected to the class and used as a lecture guide. Students are provided with the definition of a monochromatic painting. They will further understand the concept by looking at a handful of examples (paintings using different colors, subjects, and styles, but all are monochromatic). Their assignment is to create their own monochromatic painting. Clear, explicit instructions are included. Students are limited to one color of their choice (plus they can use white and black), and they must create a painting. Beyond those criteria, they are free to be as creative as they want. This is a fun project for visual arts or fine arts. It can be used with various grade levels.
