Product Description
Students are each given 1 of 5 different nuclear technologies. They must read 3 articles about their assigned technology and gather evidence to support the claim "The United States government should/should not increase federal spending on nuclear technology". All technologies have enough evidence to support whichever claim the student choses. Along with these readings is a personal dictionary for important vocabulary. Students are given 1 class period per article.

After students have collected their evidence using handout 1 (evidence log) and analyzed their evidence using handout 1a (evidence sort), they choose their best 3 pieces of evidence that support the claim they have chosen. They then use this evidence to write a 5 paragraph essay: intro, CER 1 using evidence 1, CER 2 using evidence 2, CER 3 using evidence 3, and conclusion.

After students complete their papers, they are broken into teams based on the claims they chose (NOT their technologies) and have to present an argument for the sustainability for or against nuclear chemistry using the 3 E's: environmental impact, equity impact, and economic impact.

All readings, worksheets, calendars, and daily tracking materials are in my store. This entire project (research, writing, and debate) takes about 6 weeks.
