Red Word Game Board :
Game board to place red word cards after you have called them out to students. Note:
Red Words are words that are spelled differently then they sound. Ex:
The word, what is spelled w-h-a-t, but it sounds like it should be spelled w-h-u-t.
Small Yellow Word Bingo Cards:
Use these cards with the game board.
Red Word Flashcards:
Use these cards to show students the word. (Just a bigger version of the above cards and are easier to read)
36 Student Bingo Cards:
Student bingo cards to use during the game.
Star Bingo Markers:
Students place a star marker on a word that is said. (Copy as many sheets of the star markers as you need for your students).
Red Word Bingo Game:
Each student picks a Bingo card to use and several star markers (or any other marker to place on words). They do not have to cover the star on their card, it is a free space.
Leader shuffles red word game cards and begins to call out words one at a time; waiting while students try to find the word on their Bingo Card. After students find the word the leader places the word said on the Red Word Game board. Leader may use the large Red Word Flashcards to show students the words in a larger form.
If student has the word he/she puts a marker on top of word. Game continues with leader calling out words one at a time.
Student must either cover a line of words vertically (5 in a row) or you can have students cover their whole card to win and shout out “Bingo”. Leader checks students words with the Red Word Game Board to make sure he/she has won. You may play as many rounds of the game as time permits.
This resource can be used with Grade 3 and Special Education students. I use the word level to show the progression . Special education students are not necessarily working at their grade level, but are progressing at their ability level.
Kids have some bingo fun while learning their red words!
