This is an award winning atmosphere & climate project by Laura Branch! (I received a grant for this one!)
Students all learn differently. Some enjoy writing. Some enjoy music. Some learn best through art. Because of this, I put together this project where students can choose which assignment they want to do in order to hit home the concept of atmosphere, climate and global warming. I also like this assignment because language learners can be successful with it and it helps my students prepare for the California High School Exit Exam through writing and critical thinking.
In Project 1, students work in groups of 2-3 to write articles about the atmosphere and its affect on the environment.
In project 2, students work in groups of 2-3 to prepare songs about the atmosphere and the environment. They also create CD covers using their art skills.
In project 3, students work in groups of 2-3 to prepare campaign slogans/product ideas that can help out the environment.
Students enjoy this assignment because they can work together while using key concepts for the California State Science Standards in atmosphere and climate. I like this assignment, as a teacher, because it gets students to think critically about atmosphere and climate and the environment around them.
