Week long project that requires students to collect their waste (non-perishable), sort out the waste at the end into the different types of waste, collect data and develop ideas on how to create less waste. Materials needed are: 1 large trash bag per student, 7 small trash bags per student, plastic gloves, and scale/balance.

It is recommended that students collect their any waste that does not perish in their small trash bag, carry it around for a whole day, and at the beginning of class deposit their waste into their large trash bag. Ensure large trash bags are labeled with each student's name and that no perishable food is placed in the bags (food, dairy, liquids, etc.) For the sorting activity (day 7) it is recommended that students wear gloves.
