I created this activity for my 9th grade American Government classes, but have used it in 11th grade as well. This document includes directions for students and sample pages to help them understand the project requirements and how to format their work. Students research several important Supreme Court cases, including Marbury vs. Madison, Roe vs. Wade and Miranda vs. Arizona. Students organize their research using the document I created and then use it to write a short "legal brief" about each of the cases. I based the design of this project and the required format on similar work I did in college and law school. The goal of this project is for students to understand more about how the Supreme Court decides cases and how the decisions in these cases have shaped their lives.
