I love this project! I have bridged expectations for grade 5 and grade 6 Social Studies. Great when teaching a grade 5/6 split class like I often do.
For this project, students learn about communities and Canadian identity. They get to pick a cultural community for the list provided and they have the opportunity to research different aspects about that community (ex. how, when, why did they come to Canada etc.).
In this ready-to-teach package, you will find a description of the task, a checklist, a procedure of what needs to be done (to help the students properly manage their time), 10 guiding questions, and a rubric.
I have tried and tested this project on my grade 5/6 split class. It worked like a charm and we had many interesting discussions around their research. Both me and my students ended up learning a lot.
