In this Promethean ActivInspire activity, students blend words at the syllable level. Students are presented with single-syllable word parts, and they must find matches to form two-syllable words. This is a phonics lesson in blending syllables, but the word parts contain only short vowel sounds. All but two syllables are closed. One syllable has an r-controlled vowel. Each syllable is decodable. There is a hidden reveal to display an image of the answer word. This answer feature is self-correcting and illuminates any errors as well as the correct answer.
This lesson was designed to challenge students who were decoding unfamiliar words and blending word parts.
See also the lesson titled, "Promethean: Blending Words at the Syllable Level," in the Literacy with Promethean store for a purely phonological awareness activity blending syllables that does not include phonics.
A complete lesson plan is embedded in the flipchart.
