In this Promethean ActivInspire activity, students are presented with pictures representing single-syllable, CVC words. Students must segment the onset (beginning consonant) from the rime (vowel and remainder of the word). This is a phonemic awareness activity in phoneme segmentation. This activity was designed for a minilesson or guided practice activity. There is a hidden reveal feature to display the answer word if desired.
Note that this activity is one of three posted to the Literacy with Promethean store. This particular version is the simplest version, meaning that the CVC words each contain only three letters. Refer to the store for the other two versions, also titled, "Segmenting Onset and Rime in CVC words."
A complete lesson plan is embedded in the flipchart.
