This simply board game, The Race to Professor Pronoun Penguin, gets students excited about PRONOUNS! I used this game in a second grade classroom AND with ESL students! It's super easy to implement because students are independently checking one another.
How to Play:
Students "skate" across the ice cubes by answering pronoun question cards. On each player’s turn, an opponent will draw a card from the top of the pile and cover the answer. The player whose turn it is will read the sentence on the card and then decide which pronoun best replaces the underlined noun. Get the question right, move forward the number of spaces on the ice cube. Choose the incorrect pronoun, go back one space. First one to the Professor's igloo wins!
The cards have one or more underlined noun. Students must determine which noun could replace the underlined word(s). The pronouns reviewed in this game are: they, them, their, us, we, she, her, he, him, and it.
