Pronoun Practice for Beginners ~ He, She and They

This Pronoun Practice Pack was created to help students who need support using subjective personal pronouns. These cards focus solely on the following pronouns: he, she & they.

This set consists of 40 cards. Each card is presented in two formats:

Sentence Cards ~ These cards can be used for language development activities and/or early reading games.

For language development, I often have students echo the sentence on the card and then compose their own statement about the card.

Students working on early reading skills can use these cards for various matching games. To play Memory games, I recommend matching cards by the pronoun that is used. A page of “Bang!” cards is included. To play, just lay the Very First Pronoun cards you would like students to read and the “Bang” cards face down on a table. Students take turns picking and reading cards. But if they get a “Bang" card, they have to put all their cards back. I find that this is one of my students’ favorite games.

For a fun whole group game, I recommend “Scatter.” To play, give each child one card. Students are then invited to walk around the room and find someone with a matching pronoun card, someone with a card that has a different pronoun, etc. Each time they find a partner, they read one another’s cards.

Fill in the Blank Cards ~ The pronoun has been omitted from this set. Students read the card and fill in the blank using the word he, she or they. This can be done orally, or students can write the sentence and fill in the blank. I also like to place these in page protectors for use during small group instruction and at literacy centers.

Heading cards for He, She and They are included so students can sort the cards. The card sorting activity works well with either the sentence cards or the fill in the blank cards.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look!
Sincerely, Anne Gardner (NBCT, Literacy)
