This package contains both the Proofreading PowerPoint
and the Proofreading Task Cards
to give students a good understanding of proofreading, or editing, as well as some practice with specific proofreading skills and some ideas of what to look for when giving their own papers a final check.
You can see both of the resources included in this bundle by clicking on their individual listings here:
Proofreading Task Cards
Proofreading – You’re Nearing the Finish Line!
The PowerPoint shows students how to effectively use the proofreading or editing step of the writing process. It includes descriptions of specific errors to look for when proofreading for capitalization, punctuation, grammar, spelling and format. Student activities are included for each of these areas individually as well as combined. There is also a student notebook page that can be printed out in advance for students to complete as they view the slides. The presentation is bright and colorful and would work well for students of various ages.
The task cards provide lots of practice with types of errors that students commonly check for when they are proofreading their work. The topics include punctuation, capitalization, grammar, run-on sentences, homophones, and spelling.
The cards are arranged two to a page. Each card provides a short assignment with mostly three to four questions - a great length for centers, for games such as Scoot or Footloose, for a quick review, or for independent work in spare moments. Or choose a few for a quick assessment. Also included on these task cards are three longer passages for the students to proofread. The content of these cards is similar to the content of my Proofreading Question Cards, which has only one question per card, but many more cards.
