This booklet contains fables that are in need of proofreading. Students will need to identify all of the spelling, grammar and punctuation errors by utilizing the correct editing marks. With my students, I not only had them correct the errors with the proper editing symbols, but I also had them re-write the fable implementing the corrections.
The activity is two-fold. Students receive practice with proofreading while also learning the moral lessons that come with these fables. They may know some of the fables, while others may be new to them.
You might use these activities in a number of ways, including:
* Practice in peer-editing
* Handouts to accompany a unit on writing, editing, and proofreading
* Handouts to accompany a unit on fables and/or short stories
* Work for students who finish another assignment early
If you don't already have a chart with proofreading marks and symbols, you can download one FREE here: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREE-Proofreading-Symbols-Chart-Editing-with-Hammingway-523717
