This resource consists of 35 slides containing 43 posters and 5 sound/movie clips. These carefully selected images and clips provide a good overview of the role of propaganda through history. It features posters/clips which represent various issues which conventionally exploit propaganda. Different viewpoints are examined by the inclusion of striking examples featuring opposing ideas. Notes are provided which clarify rhetorical techniques and psychological strategies used. The product also traces the journey of propaganda through time as it has gradually widened its reach through the many different media genres. Knowledge and understanding are reinforced through activities in which students identify strategies and language use in selected examples. Topics to encourage discussion are presented as well as questions to stimulate lively debate. The emphasis is on critical thinking skills, reasoning and analysis. All of this should make for a stimulating and instructive lesson. Editable slides give you flexibility should there be any concerns about material you think is sensitive in your own classroom context.
NOTE: I have noticed that many treatments of propaganda use extremely old fashioned descriptions of strategies used. In this resource I have updated, simplified and added to the strategies to align them with current practice.
