This PowerPoint file explains the concept of propaganda and presents a dozen posters which the Nazi government used to attack Jewish people and foster German pride during the World War II era. Open-ended questions are also provided to jump-start student discussions or projects about how propaganda works and how it is used today.
The presentation was originally created to accompany historical fiction novels, such as Number the Stars or The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. However, it is also effective for social studies or non-fiction study topics.
The lesson also works well for classes that will practice analyzing persuasive language or identifying logical fallacies in debate. Links are provided to Internet sources.
