This is a QR Code Scavenger Hunt. In this activity, students are introduced to the following strategies of propaganda:
appeal to numbers/statistics
Each concept is defined and given a written example (as well as several video examples). Particular attention is paid to the concept that propaganda techniques should be avoided in argumentative (persuasive) writing by students.
As students learn the concepts, they are then challenged to identify each in an actual advertisement (which is linked to through a QR code). Students scan each code and view the advertisement. Then they identify the propaganda technique. There are 11 examples and 11 clues for students to gather to solve a riddle.
The entire 'hunt' is themed around Benjamin Franklin with a persuasive quote by him, a riddle, and several trivial facts about the man and his life. The QR codes lead to this customized weebly website designed specifically for this product!! http://propagandaqrquest.weebly.com/
