When student paragraph writing skills are lacking, it can be challenging to have them write responses to literature or content specific prompts. As they progress through the grades it becomes the expectation that they can organize their thoughts into a coherent paragraph. But you and I both know that is not always the case. I created this handout for the first time nearly a decade ago, and have been refining it nearly every year since. I have used this current iteration to successfully teach basic paragraph organization to students as young as third grade, and review it with students as old as eighth grade.
