For my seventh graders, I wanted a reference sheet for them to use throughout the school year which would cover all the properties we would address during the school year. I also used this for my 8th graders as a review. Following Marzano's recommendations for effective lesson design, I tried to include examples, non examples (using mistakes my students commonly make), and pictures to illustrate the concept.
This sheet covers the following properties:
Multiplicative Property of Zero
Addition Property of Equality
Subtraction Property of Equality
Multiplication Property of Equality
Division Property of Equality
Differentiation: For my advanced students, I eliminated the property rules, and had them write them based on the examples, non-examples and graphics--this was quite a stretch but it gave them more of a discovery/inquiry format for learning. For my regular or basic level students, I took out words here and there and had them fill in the blanks so it was more of a scaffolded notes setup.
If you see any edits that need made please let me know ASAP and I will do my best to make any corrections so this is as usable & teacher friendly as possible. I am also uploading these as a word document so you can make changes/improvements as needed.
Thanks for looking!
