Teach your students WHY the Exponent Rules the way that they do, using repeated multiplication and the knowledge that anything divided by itself is 1.
When teaching my Exponents Unit, I will have students complete these activities before teaching them the Exponent Rules.
I always do Product, Quotient and Power the first day. Then Negatives and Zero the following day.
Bump the rigor in your classroom using Discovery Activities! You can also use this as a Performance Task after teaching the Exponent Rules.
