32 problems covering basic properties of mathematics, including commutative, associative, distributive, identity, and inverse properties. Covers both addition and multiplication.
Teaching ideas for the cards:
Printing Notes:
Please note these are designed to print front to back. You will have to figure out how to insert properly on your copier to do this (on our school copier I have to flip the second page for proper 2 to 1 printing). These are not designed to line up when placed on top of each other with print facing the same way. (*This is a spatial thing, not a problem for some, but I’ve done the best I can to explain it so there is no confusion. ) Please confirm correct line-up before using with students. Tables with borders are the fronts. Tables without are the backs.

If you print the cards front and back they are a great set of flashcards. Flash cards can be used by pairs of students or groups to quiz each other. You could also only print and cut the fronts to be sorted by students or print front and back separately for matching.

My two favorite engaging ways to use flash cards are the Kagan strategies: Quiz-Quiz-Trade and Inside-Outside-Circle. For quiz-quiz- trade I give each student a card and then each child gets out of their seat and randomly find a partner, they then ask the partner to answer their card, then they answer the partner's card, students then switch cards and randomly find another person. For inside-outside circle I number students 1, 2, 1, 2, etc. Ask the 1s to form a circle, then ask the 2s to form a circle outside the 1s (1s should turn around so the two students are facing each other). If there are an odd number of students I typically participate because it gives good insight as students rotate to me. Similar to quiz-quiz-trade students quiz each other and trade cards and then the teacher gives instructions such as "Outside circle rotate 5 people to the right."

These activities create a high level of engagement that encourages students to retain information due to speaking and teaching mathematics to others.
