This unit was designed for Ontario Grade 4 Science, Properties of Matter: Light & Sound. It covers all the big ideas and overall expectations for this strand and incorporates the scientific inquiry process. You are also encouraged to use it cross-curricularly to meet expectations from language. It can easily be adapted as necessary for other learning standards in other geographic locations - consult the preview file to see if it meets the standards in your area.
It is an editable Google Slides file that is designed for distribution with Google Classroom for students to complete digitally.
Even though it is a Google Slides file, it is NOT meant to be a presentation. Though you may wish to use portions of it as a whole-class mini-lesson or to spark discussion, it is mainly intended to be given to students for them to peruse at their own pace. Think of it as an interactive ebook.
It contains both content for students to learn and ten challenges for students to complete. The tasks are rich and designed with universal design for learning in mind, allowing this file to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners. Use it in conjunction with Read&Write for Google Chrome to further support learners who need support with reading and writing.
Due to the rich nature of the activities, this unit can take a shorter or longer period of time to complete depending on how much time you wish to devote to it. I would estimate 10-15 hours of learning at minimum.
Downloading the preview file will show you a watermarked PDF version of the file. The real purchased file will not contain a watermark and will not be PDF - it will be a Google Slides file you can edit and share with your students.
