This is not your typical vocabulary quiz. Most vocabulary quizzes have students match a word to a definition, but that is not how we use vocabulary in class. Do you want your students to be able to recite definitions or do you want them to be able to use their new vocabulary words in context?
This story about the properties of the Statue of Liberty allows you to assess your students’ ability to use vocabulary in context. Students have typically found this quiz format more difficult initially, but it has greatly improved their ability to apply what they have learned.
