Properties of matter is a series of 3 mini lessons designed to teach or reteach the how matter is classified and measured by states of matter, mass and volume. The properties are broken down into individual properties for each lesson and how scientists measure these properties. Each lesson will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete and requires no additional materials. I designed these mini lessons to reteach the properties of matter to targeted fifth grade students who had not mastered this skill on interim assessments, however these lessons can be done with a whole class and could be used for grades 3 -6. The lessons take the student through identifying the properties of solids liquids and gases and classifying objects into each category to identifying what mass and volume is; how they are measured; classifying objects according to mass, volume and the best method to measure these properties. These lessons can be used together as an instructional unit or separately to target needed skills for individual students.
