This fun-filled lesson encourages students to observe, infer, predict, and communicate information using the science process standards. Students have a blast using science tools to determine the properties of a geological sampling (rocks and minerals). Students will work together to sort a geological sampling into two categories. This is a 5E lesson, so during the “explore” phase students are encouraged to talk and plan as they work. Once each group has had the opportunity to sort their sampling, teams will observe the results of their fellow scientists. Through this lesson students will gain an understanding that the specimens fall into two categories: rocks and minerals.
