This fun-filled lesson encourages students to explore the properties of rocks. Students will select 5 rocks and bring them in to class. The student will place a sticker, like those found at a garage sale, on the bottom of their favorite rock. Students will take 5 index cards folded in half to create a name tent for each rock. Students will number the tents 1-5 and place it behind the rock specimens. The student’s favorite rock has been identified using the sticker. In addition, students will write a description of the rock using only its physical characteristics. Using the accordion book, students will visit 5 stations and identify the “favorite rock” using only the description provided.
