Extension: Have students research when sound becomes harmful to hearing. (Pain and hearing loss occurs at 120 dB and depends on time of exposure).
Extension: Have students research decibel levels on a variety of common sounds like planes, cars, traffic, lawn mowers, purring cat, restaurants, libraries, and anything else they are interested in learning about.
