During this project, students may either work together in pairs or individually. This project appeals to both girls and boys by bringing out the creative nature of girls and the competitive nature of boys. In this project they will be calculating ratios, proportional reasoning, GCF, and making a budget. The students are posed with the problem to hold a fundraiser. They get to take ownership of the project by deciding what their fundraiser is for. They then get to plan a haunted house themed fundraiser and decide what spooky monster/decorations they would like there. Each monster and decoration they purchase dictates how many people attend their event. The students also get to set ticket prices, but if their ticket prices are too high then they will start loosing customers. The students discover that there is a curve on the ticket price, which will give them a max amount of money. The group who profits the most money gets a prize. My students loved this project.
