Description

This is a hands on protein synthesis activity that serves as an interactive model to help students build an understand of transcription and translation, their relationship and outcomes. No matter how it's done, this is a successful activity when teaching protein synthesis; it is visual, hands-on, and promotes critical thinking.

Digital version available on Google Slides!

There is a total of 5 pages: a page with directions and a cut-out mRNA strand, a nucleus page, a ribosome page, a page with additional cut-outs, and finally an analysis page consisting of 13 questions.

This activity is designed so that it can be done at any point during your DNA unit, but students should have had a solid introduction to protein synthesis and transcription/translation prior to this activity.

Required materials for print version: scissors, glue stick, pen and pencil.
